My top 5 reasons to print your family photos

In a time when we take more photos than ever before, the joy of printing photographs, especially family photos, has been somewhat forgotten... We take countless pictures every day with our phones, but let’s be honest, most of them just end up stored on hard drives or posted on social media once, never to be seen again.

But how often do you walk down your hallway or stare at that empty wall in your lounge room… 1, 2, 5 times a day? What if those walls were filled with beautiful photos of your family? You'd probably walk past them every day and smile. After all, what’s the point of family photographs if you never get to see them?

There are many reasons why you should print your family photos, but here are my top 5!

1 // Preserve precious memories

Photos are a physical representation of memories and printing them out will help preserve them for years to come. A professionally printed photograph can be held, touched, and passed down from generation to generation, connecting families across time. While digital photos are convenient, they're not as tangible as printed photos and can easily be lost or, even worse, corrupted. Printing your favourite family photos is a beautiful way of preserving your precious memories and keep them safe for generations.

2 // Create a visual timeline

Printing out family photos can help create a visual timeline of your family's growth. Any parent knows that children change so quickly and, while you may want time to slow down, it never does. Printing your photos is an excellent way to document and celebrate how much your children have grown and changed over the years, and looking back on them will remind you of their first steps, first words, and first day at school.

3 // Decorate your home

Family photos can create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in your home. They make your living space feel more personal and give it a homely touch. Displaying photos of loved ones can also spark conversation and encourage storytelling, providing an opportunity for family members to share stories and memories with each other.

4 // Meaningful gifts

Printed family photos make the perfect gift for your loved ones, especially around birthdays or holidays. A beautiful fine art photo album or archival canvas can make a unique and meaningful gift for grandparents and other family members. It's also a great way to show them that you've put thought into their gift (who needs another pair of socks or scented candle right?!?).

5 // Your kids will love it

In his book, “Photo Therapy and Mental Health”, David Krauss states that displaying printed family photos in the home gives children a sense of belonging and security that digital images can’t give. Children love seeing photos of themselves up on the walls - it makes them feel valued, secure and boosts self-esteem!

So, while digital photos have their advantages, there is something special about holding a physical photo in your hands or seeing them displayed on your walls. Beautifully printed and framed photos can be used to preserve memories, create a visual timeline, decorate your home, create meaningful gifts and help your children feel valued and secure.

Next time you take a family photo, consider printing it out and adding it to your collection. Or even better, book a family photoshoot with a photographer who understands the importance of printing photos. You won't regret it!

I understand that digital images are very convenient, especially for families with loved ones on the mainland or overseas, but I also truly believe that beautiful photos deserve to be printed! I have four popular Digital & Print Packages which offer the flexibility of digital files with the tangibility and longevity of printed products. If you’d like to learn more, please reach out!
